welcome to my site :)

SCHOLARSHIP

i have a phd in cultural studies with an emphasis in science & technology studies from the university of california, davis. my doctoral dissertation, techlash media: credit, credibility, and crisis, examined the ways popular media represented the post-2016 moment when a mood of distrust coalesced around silicon valley following brexit and the US presidential election. this work analyzed the narratives that served to explain why the internet did not deliver on its initial promises of increased democracy and broad, shared economic prosperity. this investigation pinpointed two techlash metanarratives and misrecognitions. CONSULTING

while i am less active as a scholar, i still maintain close ties with the academic community. as a freelance consultant, i leverage multi-disciplinary expertise to help organizations see the big picture by identifying how macro-trends effect social and cultural issues so they can better prepare for the future. i have strategically advised leaders at large firms such as Google, Microsoft, and Amazon as well as smaller enterprises in the domains of trust & safety, responsible ai, and media literacy. given my academic background where i have conducted dozens of literature reviews and managed knowledge databases of thousands of scholarly books and articles, i am available to prepare timely desk research reports and whitepapers on a variety of issues of concern.

before starting my doctoral program, i worked in shanghai growing an international high school from the ground up. i served as the curriculum development lead, literature department head, and college counsellor. there i also self-published a book of photo essays on the country’s economic transformation, surveillance technologies, and everyday life.
